Frankly speaking, sore i7 is the best. It must be costlier than am3 but not enormous than i7. You can play C - level games with that processor. You may even experience the difference with some good graphics card attached!
Its depends on the games, next generation games are more greedy. Finally, I myself mounted a homogeneous config (cpu, gpu)
It is not giving a good performance with E7xxx and 4890, and even with Q9xxx and a geforce 5200.
The most powerful Core i7 in several disciplines over the AM3: true. For against, in games where the graphics card makes the most of the work, often takes Phenom2 advantage.
Which makes me doubt move to Core i7, Intel knows, is the durability of the system. Who can certify and say that future Core i7 (32 nm) can run on expensive motherboards today. Given the current business Intel does not release more 45nm CPU, and only the 920 affordable and 940 - 965 - 975 very expensive.
In AMD there is no such fear, although sometimes some sockets (754 - 939) have not lasted very long.
But it's worse at Intel, same old socket 775 CPU does not work on all current motherboards. We have a Pentium D to repair and for that we must find the appropriate motherboard with older chipsets. Motherboard but these are not very efficient nor scalable.
OK thank you I would do so when in my i7 permits budget and when I sold any media room
thank you for your advice consulting me what you like in i7 cpu with a price not too much and has a good potential for overclocking and the cpu will be well with a 9800gtx?
