using 4GB RAM in xp 32bit editions

how can one use 4GB or higher RAMs in xp 32bit editions ?

then the physical(4GB) + virtual memories will be greater than 2^32(= 4GB).

I think the 32 bit processor (eg. pentium 4) cann't address the memory after 2^32.

still people uses greater than 4GB of RAM. how could this possible ???????

Well installing 4GB physical memory doesn't mean you are actually using all of the memory. Well as you are aware of the concept of the 32-Bit processors and 4GB capability of the processors, i can say only this : using 4GB memory MAY speed up your computer as it may not have to use Virtual memory and every piece of data would reside on the physical memory [Assumption Only], but using memory greater then 4GB just means connecting physical memory on the computer which is NEVER used. To use every bit of memory use 64-Bit Operating System.

if i install 4GB ram i want to mean utilising them. only 64bit os is enough?
or i have to install 64bit processor also?
i've heard of a device ,can't remember the name, which is installed with ram in this types of cases.
do u ever heard of anything like that?

A 32 bit system can only use 3gb of the 4 anyone has installed. In order to be able to use all 4gb you must go to a 64 bit system. I've already been through this whole deal when I upped my RAM to 4 on my laptop. It sure doesn't hurt though and my laptop is faster going from 512 to 3gb.

I guess you need to start from basic of computers!!:angry: Understand the basics : Hardware components are electronic device which understand only voltages which we can't Software is a way to change the voltage in those hardware which reflects the result in a format which we Humans can understand. Without hardware no software can run similarly you will need a 64-Bit processor to run a 64-Bit OS. Is this clear now... Understan it this way: " You can only wear one pair of shoes at a time as you have two legs only to wear 2 pair of shoes you will obviously need four legs, isn't it...!??" :thumbup1: Have Fun...!
