Laptop for Photoshop/Illustrator/3ds Max

Hi all,

I'll be purchasing a laptop in India. My budget is around Rs. 35000 to Rs. 40000. I want the laptop mainly as a learning tool for graphic design - Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, Maya, 3dMax etc.

The laptops I've shortlisted are -

1. A Dell Inspiron w/ the following specs [Rs. 40000]

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40GHz/ 1066 FSB/ 3MB Cache)

2. A Croma [a local & newly launched brand] laptop w/ [Rs. 43000]

15.4" WXGA Display
4GB Dual-channel 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

nVidia 512MB Dedicated Graphics Card [9600m GS]

So, out of the two, which laptop would you suggest for my needs? The better processor or the better GPU?

Please note that I do not plan on gaming on this laptop. Secondly, I won't be doing any serious 3d applications' rendering on it.

PS: There is also a Dell studio with similar specs as the Inspiron I've mentioned but with an ATI 4570. It's for Rs. 50000. It's over my budget, but was wondering if the upgrade is worth it for my needs. The 4570 is puny in comparison to others AFAIK.

I'll suggest you to go for Croma laptop. Because one of the main reason is your usage of 3dMax, intel graphics support less 3d features but the nvidia 9600GS perfect according to your needs, You should just go for it.

I will suggest you for DELL Studio the first preference then the DELL Inspiron as DELL itself i have experienced it. Till now i have not expirenced any product of the chroma company but still the specification you getting in chroma company is better if you getting the same specification in the DELL in your budget.

As per my opinion i will suggest you to buy a product from the reputed company.

as u said you do not plan on gaming on this laptop. and won't be doing any serious 3d applications' rendering on it i think above configuration is better as 3MB Cache , P8600 , 800MHz DDR2 ,gpu is just fine only change if possible 4gb ram
