Can i overclock 800mhz memory to 1066

Hello Friends,

I would like to know that is it possible for me to overclock 800mhz memory to 1066. Currently i'm having two 800mhz crucial memory cards with 2gb each. I even have 64bit x2 5000+ cpu clocked to 3ghz and that memory can be clocked to 1066. Many times while playing game my system get freezes up. So, i had decided to overclock my system. So can any body tell me that how can i overclock my system? Does any body knows about it? Kindly provide me the correct logical steps for the above issue. any kind of information would be appreciated.

In regards to your above issue, have you attempted to manually enter in the sub-timings for your memory? Your Wintec set calls for 5-5-5-15 1.9v - 2.2v. I believe this option is available in your BIOS. I highly doubt it'll effect your compatibility issues but it's worth testing. I understand you attempted to boot straight with 533Mhz but have you tried leaving the memory frequency at stock and raising your HTT (reference clock) for your processor? Perhaps that may reveal some positive results.

If you can manually set your RAM voltage and timings in your BIOS then you are good to go. The 1066 MHZ memory would be faster. If you can not afford it then that is that. But it is faster and if you are only going to do it once then go for the faster RAM. On the other hand you could get the 800MHz RAM while it is cheap and wait for the price of the 1066 MHZ RAM to come down. Then keep the 800 MHZ RAM as Spare or sell it.

WEI is generally a poor indicator of anything remotely useful. You will not see a noticeable difference between 1066MHz and 800MHz memory in almost all applications, nor will there be a noticeable difference with tighter memory timings. You will not see a noticeable difference in anything if you lower the FSB to match your memory speed. Don't know about the overclocking headroom on notebook memory, but it probably isn't all that much.
