Realtek AC'97 Sound cracks in Windows 7
Hey!
I have recently installed windows 7 on my system...! Well my problem is I have Realtek AC'97 Audio driver that is automatically detected and installed drivers by Windows 7 itself...! But i cannot use the device as the sound cracks a lot. It seems like i'm playing a distortion guitar...! Can anyone help me solve this issue...! Well everything else it working perfectly alright..! Thanks!

Hey!
I hate to say it but if it started happening out of the blue, I think it's a hardware problem. If you had recently updated something, it could be that. My only other suggestion would be to go into safe mode, remove the sound drivers completely, and then reinstall the drivers. If you have automatic updates turned on windows may have installed a driver your system didn't like and until you uninstall it completely the problem can persist regardless of driver version.

Hey!
I am having the same problem, with a very similar setup to you. I have tried using three different versions of the Realtek drivers, but to no avail. I seem to recall that my sound worked fine in Vista. Let me know if you find a solution! Thanks in advance...!

Hey!
My asus motherboard has ac'97 onboard sound...although i don't have issues with volume it does have a lot of distortion...i'm going to invest in a sound card soon...there have been a lot of complaints with ac'97...maybe you should try and updating the drivers
