To customize notification area

hello everyone,

I want to clear some past items from the notification area in my Windows system. Can anybody help me providing the necessary steps for customizing notification area ?

• Open your registry and find the key below :
  
  User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify]
  Value Name: IconStreams, PastIconsStream
  Data Type: REG_BINARY (Binary Value)
  
  
  
• To clear the notification history delete the values called "IconStreams" and "PastIconsStream".
  
  
• Open Task Manager, click the Processes tab, click Explorer.exe, and then click End Process.
  
  
• In Task Manager, click File, click New Task, type explorer, and then click OK.

To clear Past items from the Notification Area

1. Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe)
   
2. Navigate to the following key:
   
   [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify]
   
   
3. Backup the registry key
   
4. Delete IconStreams and PastIconsStream values
   
5. Restart the computer

To clear the Past Items list manually, follow the steps below:

>> Click Start, type regedit.exe and press Enter
>> Navigate to the following branch:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify

>> Delete the values IconStreams and PastIconsStream
>> Quit the Registry Editor
>> Open Task Manager (taskmgr.exe), click the Processes tab
>> Select Explorer.exe, and then click End Process
>> In Task Manager, click File, click New Task, type explorer, and then click OK.
