Are There Virus for Mac OS?

Hey There!
I wan't to know if there are virus for mac os? Well i have a Mac Book and i'm having absolutely no problems with it but just i want to be sure so that i don't end up screwing my Mac Book...! I have never heard about viruses for Mac though, so thought i should make sure...! Thanks for any help!

I have never heard of an OS X virus, and viruses in the Classic Mac OS have always been very rare birds. I've been using Macs since 1984, and I've never seen a real, live Mac virus. I think Mac anti-virus software survives on the food that spills over from the Windows side... :rofl_2: :rofl_2:

Touch Wood! It's well known that there are no known viruses for the Mac OS X operating system despite it being on the market for over seven years. As of this writing, Mac OS X is virus-free. There have been some attempted exploits in the past but those relied on social engineering. A prime example was the trojan in 2006. It required several actions to be undertaken by the user in order for the trojan to propagate. Viruses on the other hand accomplish their work without the end user knowing...!

The number of viruses actively attacking OS X users is…NONE! However, this doesn’t mean we should get complacent about checking incoming email attachments or web downloads, for two reasons. Firstly, there’s no guarantee that we Mac users will continue to enjoy the status quo, but more importantly, the majority of the computing world use machines running MS Windows, for which an enormous quantity of viruses exist, so we must be vigilant in checking the files we pass on to our friends and colleagues.
