Using the Recovery Console
If you can not remove Service Pack 2 Windows XP by using one of the previous methods, follow these steps:
- Insert the boot disk in Windows XP the floppy disk drive or insert the Windows XP CD into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, then restart your computer. When the following message appears, press any key to boot your computer from the Windows XP CD-ROM: Note: Your computer must be configured to boot from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.For more information about how to configure your computer to boot from the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, see the documentation that came with your computer or contact the manufacturer of your computer.
- When the message "Welcome!" appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
- Select your installation of Windows XP. This installation is typically C: \ Windows.
- Enter Admin Password when prompted. If you do not have an administrator password, press ENTER.
- At the command prompt, type cd $ NtServicePackUninstall $ \ spuninst, and then press ENTER.
- Warning: After you complete this step, you can not stop the removal process. At the command prompt, type batch Spuninst.txt, and then press ENTER.
- Once the removal process is complete, type exit, and then press ENTER.
- Restart your computer.
Important: When your computer restarts, Windows Explorer (Explorer.exe) does not run and you must do the following:
- Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to start Task Manager.
- Click the Applications tab, then click New Task.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate the registry subkey and then click the following:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ RpcSs
- Right-click on ObjectName, click Modify, type LocalSystem in the Value data.
- Restart your computer.
- Use one of these methods to remove the Windows XP Service Pack 2 from your computer.
Note: Before you want to uninstall SP2, please keep in mind that it fixes many security flaws.Its deletion may compromise the security of your machine. In this case, it is advisable to check the security updates on Windows Update.
