DDR2 Ram Memory in DDR Slot
Hello , I Have old pentium System , With ddr slots in it , ? Yesterday My Freinds Gave me DDR2 Ram memory So Can anyone know exactly what happens if you put DDR2 memory in a DDR Slot? , Can I Really Use DDR2 memory On DDR2 slot , if not please tell me Why i Cannot do so ? Thanks in Advance
Re: DDR2 Ram Memory in DDR Slot
Hello , No DDR2 and DDR are not compatible and so you can not add DDR2 RAM module in a DDR Slot. Electrical specifications like voltage, signal pinout and even mechanical size and shape of modules are different.
Re: DDR2 Ram Memory in DDR Slot
Hello ,
DDR and DDR2, although similarly named, are incompatible:
- different pin layouts
- different voltages
Force DDR in a DDR2 slot, see white smoke.
Re: DDR2 Ram Memory in DDR Slot
A significant difference, is a different operating voltage.DDR is 2.5V or 2.6V, while DDR2 is 1.8V. No need to smoke it. DDR2 has programmable on-die termination (ODT), which is a difference when compared to DDR. DDR relies on
some resistors located on the motherboard. I think in both cases, the termination scheme is described as SSTL.
Re: DDR2 Ram Memory in DDR Slot
Unfortunately, ddr2 ram will not work in a ddr slot. They are physically different sizes first of all(look at the number or the edge of the ram stick you will see that the number of teeth on the ddr2 are smaller etc) and also the ram itself is a different configuration and technology. So you will have to use ddr only if that is the type of ram your mobo requires. So always remember, you cannot mix and match the type of ram just the speed of the ram.
