VirtualBox 2.2 Adds Support For OpenGL on Linux
VirtualBox is the name of a client virtualization free works equally well under Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. one can create virtual machines for testing such a system without danger of exploitation. It is also a very useful for a developer who needs to run this software on any system without having to install it on his machine.
VirtualBox is available in version 2.2 and this version brings some nice new features:
- OpenGL support under Linux (the first returns speak for a decline of 10% of average performance in games, and the effects of non-functioning of the office)
- Best drivers for the USB and reducing consumption processor when using devices
- Possibility to export the virtual machines in OVF format (Open Virtualization Format)
- Simplified file sharing systems between host and guest in Solaris and OpenSolaris
- Experimental support of USB in the Solaris and OpenSolaris
- Instructions VT-x and AMD-V are enabled by default when creating new virtual machines
- Increase the maximum size of RAM and 16 GB per system prompted a 64-bit host
- Added a C API in addition to C + +, Java, Python and Web Services
- Fixed a problem that sometimes caused the stopping of a file transfer via FTP

Re: VirtualBox 2.2 Adds Support For OpenGL on Linux
VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox.

Hello , In any case I think this is the first virtualization solution other than the Mac that allows OpenGL ... Very promising! Strongly that openGL is run under Windows history can also use a virtualized linux with any kind problem If you remember, 3D acceleration was introduced for Windows XP guests in VirtualBox 2.1, and now similar functionality had been ported for Linux and Solaris VMs. A quick experiment shows almost 4x performance improvement for 3D between VirtualBox 2.1.2 and VirtualBox 2.2 - I've simply booted Ubuntu live cd and used glxgears to get some idea about the efficiency of new 3D acceleration support.

hello , I have tested with vmware and VirtualBox on Fedora host and Trust 3 Windwos in guest (XP modified and reduced) and there is no picture in terms of performance on my 4200 +! The boot, file transfer, and the general operations are much faster on the VirtualBox!
