Can't open chm files in e-books
Hello Friends,
I'm using e-books on my system. The problem is that i'm unable to open chm files mainly in e-books. Whenever i try to open chm files in e-books it gives me an error message that it "cannot open these files". Previously i used to open this files easily on my system, but now i can not open it. Can any body tell me that how do i open my chm files in e-books? Does any body knows about it? Please help me out to resolve the above issue. Any kind of help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Re: Can't open chm files in e-books
On Windows XP (with the security update applied) you can also simply right-click on the CHM file, select Properties, and click on the "Unblock" button. Click "Apply" and the content should be visible.
Re: Can't open chm files in e-books
Just go to your Windows start menu and select Run. In that type regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\hhctrl.ocx. And then try to open your chm files, now you would be able to view your files easily.
Re: Can't open chm files in e-books
Open up My Computer. Click on Tools-->Folder options on menu. Go to File Types. Scroll down till you find CHM and make sure that it is associated with Compiled HTML Help file.
Re: Can't open chm files in e-books
Follow the below steps mention in order to solved your problems while opening CHM files in ebooks:-
Rename the file if the name contains symbols, such as a #.
Rename the file if the name is long.
If you can not open and read a CHM file, the CHM file may have a security block. Microsoft's Knowledge Base provides two resolutions:
Method 1:
1. Double-click the .chm file.
2. In the Open File-Security Warning dialog box, click to clear the Always ask before opening this file check box.
3. Click Open.
Method 2
1. Right-click the CHM file, and then click Properties.
2. Click Unblock.
3. Double-click the .chm file to open the file.
Re: Can't open chm files in e-books
If you trust all the computers on your LAN or intranet (and the people using them), you can lower the restrictions on the Local Intranet zone to allow CHM files to be displayed with the following steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions. If this registry subkey does not exist, create it.
3. Right-click the ItssRestrictions subkey, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type MaxAllowedZone, and then press Enter.
5. Right-click the MaxAllowedZone value, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7. Quit Registry Editor.
Re: Can't open chm files in e-books
Hi Guys
I am using windows 7 starter addition of MS.
Here I do not find unblock tab in properties.
Please help me to see chm file.
It opens in windows help application, but shows blank page as you shown above.
None of above posts could help to slve the issue.
This is happening with 2-3 files only. AT the same time I can open other files very well.
but when I open these 2-3 files to other XP machine, then it works fine. :(
not getting what can go wrong....
