Creating another network with a Cisco router
Hello all,
I have a question. I want to place a Cisco 2600 series router in my home network so that I can create a second network for lab work.
My network consists of a cable modem coming into a Linksys wrt45g wireless router, which has one PC wired to it.
It has been a while since I have used an actual router. That's why I am thinking of getting a Cisco 2600 that's what we used in college.
What I think can do from what I've read is take a crossover cable from my Linksys router and hook it into the 0/0 ethernet port and then run a cable out the 0/1 port to hub
would this work?
Re: Creating another network with a Cisco router
Your set up seems too complicated to me. I am unable to analyze your network. Can you explain me in a broader way (may be with some small network diagram) ?
Re: Creating another network with a Cisco router
For redundancy of ISP's you will have to configure BGP on the routers.
For redundancy of devices you can configure HSRP.
BGP:

HSRP:

Good Luck! :)
Re: Creating another network with a Cisco router
Hey!
Router is used to connect different networks. That means you can either allow or disallow different networks to communicate with each other which would be impossible without a router. What exactly are you planning to implement? Everything is possible if you have a router...! You can specifically allow or disallow specific ports to disable different functions, like you can disable port 80 which will disable web browsing on a network...! So please be detailed about what you want to setup...!? All the best...!
