How to Start windows in Safe Mode

Restart in Safe Mode, why and how?

• Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode of Windows. When you start your computer in Safe mode, only the specific components necessary to perform the operating system are loaded.
• Safe mode does not allow some functions, like connecting to the Internet for example.
• It loads a basic video driver with a low resolution, which explains the different aspect of your programs and the Windows desktop.
• Desktop icons may also have changed their location because of this low resolution.
• There are several reasons that can lead us to restart in safe mode, here I mention that to us.
• For many files, especially files malware, it is impossible to remove because they are running. If you have tried, for the most part, we get an error message indicating that the file is being used by someone or by an application.
• When started in Safe Mode, only the necessary files are loaded, deleting files is now possible due to inactivity.

Start in Safe Mode with Windows XP and Vista

Use this method (using the F8 key) if you have a single operating system (Windows XP or Vista) installed on your computer.

1. Restart your computer. The computer begins processing instructions known as the Basic Input / Output System (BIOS). The display depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar referring to BIOS, others may not indicate the process underway.
2. At the end of loading the BIOS, start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard (or F5 if F8 does not work). Do this until the advanced options menu of Windows appears. If you start pressing the F8 key too soon, it is possible that some computers display the message "keyboard error". To resolve this problem, restart the computer and try again.
3. By using the arrow keys, select "Safe Mode" menu and press Enter.

Method with the System Configuration Utility

Use with extreme caution


XP

1. Close all open programs.
2. Click on Start, then Run (Or press Windows + R). Dialog "Run" appears.
3. Type msconfig and then click [OK].
4. The System Configuration Utility appears, see in the BOOT.INI tab. Select / safeboot and click [OK].
5. You will see then see the prompt to restart the computer. Click [Restart]. The computer restarts in Safe mode. (This may take several minutes.)
6. troubleshooting procedure for which you graduate (e) in safe mode.
7. If you have completed your troubleshooting in safe mode, repeat steps 1 through 5, but in step 4, uncheck / safeboot.
8. Close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

Safe mode with networking support

Activation of the support network in the safe mode can solve network problems (difficulties in establishing a share for example).
You can use the first method described in this article, with F8, but the second, via the System Configuration Utility. In the second case, just check in addition to "SafeBoot", the "Network" just below.
