So I downloaded some movies and tried playing them on 4 different media players I get perfect audio but no video. my boyfriend plays the same files on his desktop (running xp) but I'm unable to get them to work on my vista laptop. On a friends advice I downloaded the latest vista codec pack this didn't work, I also tried k-lite codec pack full version. (After uninstalling the other codec pack). Nothing seems to be working. Any ideas would be greatly apprecated I know I'm out of them. :)
Can you give more details? Which type of movie formats you trying to play? You no need to install every codecs, just install what you need. K-lite is enough.
Instead of keeping 4 media player just keep 1 or 2 and try to keep the codec pack for that media player, I will suggest remove all the media player from your computer and make fresh installation and then let me know what kind of error message it gives.
Which player are you using? Try VLC media player. It plays all types of video file extensions. It is possible, that your video card is having some problem. Try to reinstall the drivers. Have a look at following thread: http://forums.techarena.in/media-player/1000842.htm
Is this happening for all video files, just one in particular, or one type of file? Perhaps you do not have the correct codec required to play the video file. You could try uninstalling any codec packs you have (if any) and visiting free-codecs.com. One of the codec packs such as XP Codec Pack should do the job fine.
If that doesn't work, then post some more details about the file, such as the file extension. If you need help analysing the file, AVICodec is a small program which can do this for you.

Okay I've tried 2 types of movie files mp4 and avi neither work I get the same problem with both file types. Sound works perfect screen is a blank white screen. I've tried the vlc player the windows media player the core media player and the kmplayer. None of those 4 will play the files properly. There is no error message it's just a blank screen with sound. I'll check my video drivers now to update them.
So uninstalling and reinstalling the video drivers worked perfectly. Thanks for all your help :)
Drivers usually do the problem and reinstalling drivers helps many times for some of such issues. Glad to hear that your problem has solved. Everything that ends well is well :D Happy endings...
