I have a Lacie dual layer burner with Light Scribe. It burns so much faster. You don't have to use dual layer disc for everything. Some times I use the cheapies. If it is some important I use the dual layer lightscribe discs then flip the disc over and burn a label on to it.
A Pioneer 110D and a good 5.25" enclosure. Shouldn't cost more and would be very cheap as compared to other.s

Do note that it is a Sata based and not Ide.
I recommend LG GSA-4163B - it supports all the formats (including DVD-RAM), is fast, and reliable (at least my LG GSA-4120B is). My LG also has write offset = 0 which is a nice thing for burning CDDA, since 4163B is the same breed you can expect the same.
