Changed the hard disk, did I made any mistake ?
Currently my pc is having 2 HDD of 250GB and 1 of 320 GB Maxtor 10 with 16 MB cache 7200 revolutions. They have a see two years in the face. I just bought 2 HDD Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB SATA II 32 MB - 750 GB Hard Drive
You think I will gain in performance read/write compared to my current two discs that I used more for storage?
Re: Changed the hard disk, did I made any mistake ?
I would say it depends on the rest of your config
Re: Changed the hard disk, did I made any mistake ?
The rest of my configuration is:
Motherboard Asus P5B Deluxe
E6400 overclocked to 4.2 GHz
4GB OCZ DDR2 Ram
1 PNY 8800 GTX 768 MB
1 Soundblaster X-FI Fatality Gamer
Vista 32 Bit Home Familliale
The perfs of my current discs be recorded 5 minutes ago with hdtune are:
WDC WD2500KS-00MJB0 250GB
Transfer rate: Minimum 33.1Mb/sec
Maximum 58.7 MB/sec
Average 50.6 Mb/sec
Access time: 13.3 ms
Burst rate 133.9Mb/s
CPU usage 1.4%
Partition C/Z/D/E/G/I/X
ST3320620AS 320GB
Transfer rate: Minimum 37.2Mb/sec
Maximum 76.6MB/sec
Average 62.5Mb/sec
Access time: 13.6m
Burst rate 164.9Mb/s
CPU usage 1.4%
Partition: O/H/J
Will I gain in perf?
Re: Changed the hard disk, did I made any mistake ?
For the WD SATA, it is on. Compared to Seagate, it may not be obvious.
You mount the accounts in raid0?
Re: Changed the hard disk, did I made any mistake ?
Initially I thought, but ultimately I wonder if really is worth the cost to run the risk of a hard disk crash and lose everything to gain in performance. Since my use is very brief (no encoding, net usage, many games, etching etc ...
If I replace the 2 by samsung 150GB velociraptor, start applications, the OS, loading game is much faster?
Re: Changed the hard disk, did I made any mistake ?
If this is to accelerate the loading of the OS or applications, I will say move on to the SSD.
