SMBus Controller disappeared
After a risky movement. Boot a PC generated a horrible noise (crackles, long search for the floppy). Then, the SMBus Controller was declared invalid in the Device Manager (question mark in yellow in XP).
I uninstalled and then disabled. I know I should not have.
In my doubt I wonder today especially on the audit: "PCI Device Listing" BIOS POST.
The controller is rated #NA# for its IRQ (in the full listing screen Devices PCI BIOS POST), something I had never noticed.
It crashes my system to boot quite often.
How to reinstall?
Re: SMBus Controller disappeared
Reinstall the chipset driver of your motherboard.
Re: SMBus Controller disappeared
Sorry. However, I reinstalled the chipset drivers for my motherboard. The SMBus Controller is no longer anywhere.
I would like to know if the #NA listed in the BIOS POST is customary.
Re: SMBus Controller disappeared
Clear CMOS, or reflash the bios.
If it does not solve the problem then it's a hardware problem and not software (since it happens before the boot)
Re: SMBus Controller disappeared
You can tell if you have a IRQ number other than "NA" for SM Bus Contrlr in the PCI Device listing STP?
it actually happens before the boot of Windows.
