Unable to read Data disk through DVD Drive

Hi

This problem is getting to be a bit of a pain

My Sony DVD recorder will not always read Verbatim DVD-R's if data recorded but will read burnt DVD (Nero 7 / MS Vista)

The DVD is burnt and plays fine elsewhere(checked on my laptop). Very rarely will it read DVD data

Any ideas

Try reading the disk with the unit plugged in to the ac adapter,,,,,,,and without a battery in it. If the disc is finalized and that not the issue....and my suggestion works....it's voltage.

If you have an extra CD or DVD drive lying around, pop it in using the same configuration and see if it works. That way, you will know if its the configuration or the drive thats actually the problem. You can also try using a different SATA channel to see if that solves the problem.

Also, does the drive read data CD/DVDs in another computer? If it cannot, then it may indeed be a hardware issue. Though it is entirely possible that the way the disks are written, they are bad. Try using the Vista DVD and see if it reads. If not, then try another cable. If none of that works, try a repair or reinstall,
