ntldr issues
Hello, hope someone can help.
I've been running Windows 2000 for sometime and now want to add Windows XP Pro in a dual-boot configuration as I don't want to lose my Win 2000 files and programs. I've Ghosted the Windows 2000 from the original drive onto a larger drive and divided it in two ready for XP, then checked that Win 2000 booted up properly, which it did fine.
I then installed XP Pro on the second partition and that went on with no problems, however Win 2000 now does not boot but XP does.
After much playing about, I've discovered that XP's ntldr does not like Win 2000 and have found out why; that the HKLM System part of the registry on Win 2000 has to be below 6MB in size, mine is 41MB. Seems like it's a fault in XP's ntldr.
Ok, is there a way to load the correct ntldr when booting? Can ntldr be booted from a directory rather than the root or can ntldr be renamed and then called depending on which version of Windows is booted?
Regards.
