Re: Get Search back to the Start Menu in Vista Manually
Yes, thats correct ever since Vista Service Pack 1 was installed the Search box was removed from the Start Menu. Here’s a way to get it back without any application and and replacing any other program. Not in the exact place but close.Lets start by creating a shortcut for Search on the desktop.
1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard along with the F key to open the Windows Search box.
2. Left click the magnifying glass and drag it to your desktop.
3. Now if you want you can rename the shortcut by right clicking it and choosing rename.
4. Now you can leave it right here on your desktop
If you like or if you want it back in the Start menu. Left click the icon and drag it over the Start Orb until the Start menu opens then drag it to the left side of the menu and let go. Now Search is back to the Start menu.
Thats it..

Putting Search back on the Start menu is a bit easier as you just need to create a shortcut, but you won’t be able to put it back in the same exact location.
Right-click on your desktop and select the New | Shortcut command. When you see the Create Shortcut wizard, type:
C:\Windows\explorer.exe search-ms: in the text box
To continue, click Next, name the shortcut Search, and click Finish.
Now, drag the Search shortcut to the Start menu, and place it at the very top of the left-hand panel. You are done...
