hi,
you may connect one of the hard disk as slave to the other one,you will have to set the jumper found the hard disk to the slave mode.
Re: IDE DVD writer and SATA hard drive?
how many ide connections do you have on the motherboard? if you only have 1 then just connect the dvd burner to it and set to master. also set the jumper to master on the dvd burner. as for the sata hard drive it should be connected to the sata connector on the motherboard. there should be no problems as the ide dvd burner and sata hard drive will not be connected together on a cable.

hi,
if you have 2 sata ports (and I believe that any mother which supports sata has at least 2 ports) you can plug your hard drive and dvd.
Re: IDE DVD writer and SATA hard drive?
SATA optical drives are cheap nowadays, as are SATA hard drives. Since Intel axed official IDE support from their ICH8 southbridge chips, board manufacturers have had to rely on 3rd-party chips to offer support for legacy IDE devices. These 3rd-party chips don't always play nicely with certain drives and configurations.
