Automatic Update Service Not Starting
For the last couple of days or so I'm unable to access the Windows Updates
Site due to the AutoMatic Service not starting correctly, I've tried the
Windows Update Repair Tool, "Dialafix" ect.
I'm using xp x64 Edition service pack 2 as my O/S
This service is currently stoped
The Error Message I get when trying to start is this:
"Could Not Start Automatic Updates Service On Local Computer Error 126: The
Specified Moduel could not be found"
Any Ideas Please?
Thanks
Rob
Re: Automatic Update Service Not Starting
There is a very good chance are that you are seeing the affects of a
hijackware infection.
1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx
2. Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan (only!) in Safe
Mode with Networking, if need be:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm
3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.
If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Back atcha! Since you neglect to quote previous posts in your replies, who
knows what's going on in this thread?
(Not everyone here is accessing this newsgroup via the web-interface so we
don't have all previous posts in a given thread at our fingertips.)
Re: Automatic Update Service Not Starting
I don't even have that kind of Malware unfortunately, I'm very PC Literate, I
have scanned with my AntiSpyware and Malware Programs nothings come up so is
there a way of repairing the Windows Update Service??
Re: Automatic Update Service Not Starting
You can scan with hundreds of anti-spyware/anti-spyware & anti-virus apps
and still be infected!! There isn't a scanner on earth that can detect and
remove all the BadGuys.
I don't care how "PC literate" you may be, you don't know as much as the
experts in those forums do.
Conclusion: No one here can fix this for you and Windows Update Service does
not need to be repairs, your computer does.
Re: Automatic Update Service Not Starting
I tried Registering The following Files in CMD
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll *
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
wuaueng1.dll is the problem
"LoadLibary("wuaueng1.dll")Failed - The Specified Module Could not be found"
Re: Automatic Update Service Not Starting
Well ... you could try downloading the Windows Update installer from the
Download Center and running it from Safe Mode with the /wuforce switch.
This won't help if malware is still lurking on your machine. Note that
conventional scanning tools will not work against all malware.
Re: Automatic Update Service Not Starting
I decided to re-install XP on Sunday.
I sucessfully got to the Windows Update Site to download all avaialble
updates installed fine.
I attempted to get to the update page again, but I had "Windows Update
Cannot Be Displayed"
At this time I checked that the Windows Update and BIS service where all
good and they where, tried again same problem.
I tried re-regestering the following via cmd
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll *
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
There seems to be a problem with this file * for some reason
"LoadLibary("wuaueng1.dll")Failed - The Specified Module Could not be found"
Tried doing a sfc/scannow
Nothing.
This sounds like to me that the Windows Update Agent Tool is corrupted how
do I go about fixing this?
Thanks

Re: Automatic Update Service Not Starting
Right-click on My Computer | Properties: What version is displayed on the
resulting tab?
Did you do a Repair Install or did you format & clean install?
What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?
Has the Windows Firewall or a third-party firewall been enabled at all
times?
Is the machine on a network? Have you used anything other than a brand-new
or freshly formatted USB key or CD/DVD since the "re-install"?
Re: Automatic Update Service Not Starting
I did a format and clean install the o/s is XP Professional x64 Edition
I have Avast and Comodo Firewall
SuperAntispyware, Malware Byetes and A-Squared.
The Windows Firewall Is Off.
No Network its just a stand alone.
Using the Origional Disk With No Problems
What next?
Thanks.
Re: Automatic Update Service Not Starting
Is Automatic Updates enabled?
Are you only getting the "Page cannot be displayed" error when you attempt
to access http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com or is it happening with any
page?
Right-click on %windows%\System32\wuaueng.dll <=this file | Select
Properties | Click on Version tab: Is it v7.2.6001.788?
