I went with Vista recently.
I want to know if it was possible to remove the automatic sorting.
Let me explain.
Take for example a music folder:
- View list (or DETAIL)
- With 500 mp3 files
- I added 30 additional mp3
- I wish now to rename the 30 files
==> So, The gallery to find the 30 files (especially if you do not remember the 30 files)
Under XP, the files are added to the end of the list, to rename is simple.

Once you set the dataview's Sort it will automatically sort on that field.

Right-click the Start button and click Properties. You can pick between the new Vista style or the older style, and you can customize either one of them. The new style has a checkbox for Sort by Name.
Include a new field which represents your sorting. Just a column of 1,2,3,...in the source table. I believe you can sort a pilot by any field without actually showing it (not sure).
