Way to retrieve the data from WD external hdd
I bought, not long ago, an external hard drive Western Digital My Book Essential Edition. I use to put different data, not necessarily vital. Yesterday evening, I dropped my hard disk of the table (about 1m above ground), while working.
Since then, whenever I connect it:
- The "light" lights up when I plug in the USB port, so it's not a cable or like that I suppose
- It is a small ratchet for about 10s, then nothing
- It is not detected by Windows
I have backup lying here with me and so I could try to "reformat" the hdd).
So I'm interested in any advice:
- To try to use again the hard drive
- Precautions to be taken prior to extract the hard drive itself (I do not know if there are any tips, things to know, etc...)
Re: Way to retrieve the data from WD external hdd
You can try to dismantle and reconnect it in your pc to see if it is recognized by the bios but no guarantee.
Re: Way to retrieve the data from WD external hdd
May be call Western Digital for assistance. And read the contract, if they say no than they will definitely help you for data recovery, guaranteed.
