ISP for new office

Hello All,

I am a sys admin and have very basic understanding about networks & network connectivity.

We are shifting to a new location at Rabale, new mumbai. I have been asked to connect my entire office network with our US network via VPN for which I will be getting a router from the US office. They have asked me to get a dedicated connection to use with VPN.

Can anybody suggest what kind of connectivity (ADSL, Leased lines, T1 etc) I will need from the ISP's (Reliance, TATA, BSNL, Airtel) to interface with the router??

Also suggest best service provider along with contact details.

For dedicated connectivity, the most preferred and reliable source is leased lines... There are many providers but when VPN has to be installed for overseas brach, compromise cannot be done, Best ISP for you would be VSNL and not MTNL... I have had worst experience with MTNL for almost 15 times when i was at work with a share market broker as a sys admin and network developer...! VSNL has never given a change to raise finer against them...! VSNL is a big company, you can find the contact details on your own...! All the best....!

PS: If you go to buy a T1, especially in India, your US company would be short on money...! In India internet capping is done on a huge scale...! Leased line of say 4 to 8MBPS would be enough...!

For connectivity, I suppose it completely depends on your usage and requirement. I mean how big is your company? How many users? Ideally, I would suggest to go for lease line (best suites the business needs). For ISP, I would suggest to go for Airtel. It is the best in India.

Hey thanks guys for quick replies, really appreciate your inputs. There will be 30-50 users connecting via VPN... mainly for mail & intranet web application access, what should be the ideal bandwidth??

If you are having 30 - 50 users, I suppose 8 - 10 Mbps would be enough.
