Grub "Read Error"
I have problem with my Linux system, and hope that you can help me.
I have a mainboard swap carried out, and then booted my Linux is not more. Grub always gave me the message: "Grub Read error loading" back. I have installed Suse Linux 11 .
Installation went without problems, and system booted. But now, however, the message "loading Grub Read Error"
What does this mean?
I have nothing on the hard disks, etc. changed.
Has a no idea what I should do?
If reluctant to reinstall OS again, yesterday everything configured, etc., etc. ...
I guess it still needs some things?

Re: Grub "Read Error"
The easyist way is to drop in yur LiveCD & when the grub menu comes up hit the "c" key for the grub command line prompt. Now things get a wee bit tricky, ya need to know where the boot stuff is as well as the grub nomenclature. Grub starts with Zero (0) in stead of one (1). You can use the "Tab" key to offer options. Anyhow, give this a try;
Code:
root (hdX,Y)
setup (hdX,Y)
setup (hd0)
reboot
reboot without the cd in.
The red X is the hard drive you installed to and the blue Y is the partition. The green hd0 is yur mbr.

Re: Grub "Read Error"
I solved my issue. It turns out that the fixmbr command requires an argument which is the disk to be repaired. The help info implied this was optional and that the book drive would be fixed in that case. Hence, I was issuing the command but it wasn't doing anything.
