Hi Ashlin,
To open the group policy editor window, Go to start --> Run ---> and type gpedit.msc
"Make a note of what changes you do in here. So that you can revert back the changes if something goes wrong." :)
Re: How do i access gpedit in Xp
Follow the below steps mention.
- Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
- Now traverse to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.msc and delete the registry entry on the right side.
- After deleting it when you again type gpedit.msc in Run box, it will open an “Open with” dialog.
- Now select the second option and browse to get a new option; browse to C:\Windows\system32\mmc.exe
- A new option “Microsoft Management Console” will appear in the window.
- Select this option and remember to check the box below to always run the command without doing this again and again.
- That’s it, all .msc extensions will now open.

To install gpedit on Windows Xp you will need :
appmgmts.dll
appmgr.dll
fde.dll
fdeploy.dll
gpedit.dll
gptext.dll
gpedit.msc
conf.adm
inetres.adm
system.adm
Place the dll's in :
C:\WINDOWS\system32
gpedit.msc in :
C:\WINDOWS
The 3 *.adm in a file you'll create if it doesn't exist (case sensitive):
C:\WINDOWS\system32\GroupPolicy\Adm
Then record dll's into registry :
("start/run)
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\gptext.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\fde.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\fdeploy.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\appmgr.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\gpedit.dll
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\appmgmts.dll
Don't worry about message that could appear, just cancel it. When recording "appmgmts.dll", you get another message saying it has not been recorded, don't worry it has been recorded. Now you can run gpedit.msc

Can this be applicable in XP-Home?
as i know gpedit.msc is not present on said OS.
