Overclock Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q9650
I have a small query regarding overclocking my processor. I have Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q9650 and i have recently tried to overclock to 3.6Ghz. I am confused as can i try to overclock it at 4.0Ghz and stabilize it. Please provide some suggestion regarding this

Keep an eye on the motherboard temp, thats the NB chipset.
Also see if you can figure out what the NB voltage is.a lot of these enthusiast boards run a questionable amount of voltage while set at "AUTO".If you are overclocking, I'd recommend manually setting the voltages. ASUS boards are notorious for pushing excessive voltages through components when you raise the FSB.
Re: Overclock Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q9650
I've bumped up the voltage on the NB of several systems and it really helps at higher OCs. Anything over 4GHz on this board and I have to bump up the NB voltage one increment to keep it stable. As long as you've got a decent heatsink on it, it's safe to give it some more juice. Also, if your board has it, try bumping up the vCore GTL Reference voltage. This could also add some stability at higher overclocks
Re: Overclock Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q9650
I'm testing at 445 X 9 or about 4GHz and 1.3625 volts. Memory is set at the lowest settings of 890 and an overvoltage of .45 which ends up being 2.25v.
If this Prime95 test fails at 445 I'll try increasing the (G)MCH to .1 for starters and then go higher up to .2 if .1 fails. I'll watch the temps. If you think it is OK, I might also increase the FSB Overvoltage to .1 and then .2. I have seen others do this with success.

I ended up getting one and the EO stepping is pretty decent. I've got a decent 24/7 4ghz clock at more than decent volts will see how far I can push it soon.
it seems FSB Wall still remains same on C2Q, i guess just a bit more FSB you'll get from high end mobo chipset capabilities
but hey, Quads with 4GHz is more than enough i guess
