Slow Windows process svchost.exe
My pc is very slow at startup and when I go into Task Manager, I see that UC used = 100% and that the Svchost.exe process that is over 90%. After several minutes, the pc back to normal speed and UC also normal level (10-30%).
I'm on XP pro (which was reinstalled 3 days ago).
If someone has an explanation, and especially a solution to my problem, thank you in advance.
Re: Slow process svchost.exe
Svchost is a generic server XP. You used as anti-virus / anti-spyware?
XP Pro is it legal (most downloadable / thus illegal / XP come larded rootkits, worms, viruses, ...)?
You can see a list of open ports on your machine by doing (in a DOS box):
netstat
You can "scan" your computer with HijackThis, and watch the online analysis of the report on http://www.hijackthis.de
What about memory usage? A machine that swapping is a slow machine, and given the ridiculously low price of memory for the moment, it is an upgrade that is often worth.
Re: Slow Windows process svchost.exe
Thank you for the super fast response.
I did the command "netstat" but we know how the ports not open?
I "Avira AntiVir" as anti-virus and I have "Spybot - Search & Destroy" as anti-spyware. I did the analysis HijackThis and from what I understand, no apparent danger. For the record, I have 768 MB on my P4 1800MHz. To Xp Pro, because it is a downloaded version, I had a XP Home came with my PC but I need a Pro version.
Thank you and if you have any advice to give me, I'm interested.
Re: Slow Windows process svchost.exe
may be useful: it must look at all the connections that are "listening" in the first and the last number of the line is the PID (Process ID) of the executable that is attached (details in the second order).

Very good

While in the Task Manager the total memory used is never exceeded, very well.

Ah, then, much worse.

Do not use a downloaded version ;-).
XP Pro is expensive for what it is, totally agree. So why not switch to a free OS (** really ** free), like Ubuntu. And take the opportunity to finally happen antivirus, anti-spyware and other processors that transform our modern snails?
Re: Slow Windows process svchost.exe
The 3 ports are "listening" are svschost (network), alg (local) and system. That seems normal.
I never exceed my total memory.
And for XP Pro, I really need to use it and can not afford to pay me. Otherwise, I also work on Ubuntu.
Thank you.
Re: Slow Windows process svchost.exe
Except that to get infected with Linux, it should be the really want, and the number of "available" is very limited.
In 5 years of daily use, without any attention at all, the number of viruses have reached my machine is: 0
