Create a Hibernate Shortcut in Vista
Hi, I bought a vista system last month, and i want to save my current active state and shutdown the computer into a deep sleep, almost off. I mean i want to put my computer into hibernation mode but i don't know how to create a hibernate shortcut in Vista. Any of you guys can help me in this case ?
Re: Create a Hibernate Shortcut in Vista
If you are in the hibernation mode, even the keyboard and mouse will not wake the computer up.Only the power button on the case. No matter what you have your power settings set for. You will need to press the computer case power button to wake up the computer to resume the same active state as when you put it in hibernation.
Create a Hibernate Shortcut:-
1. Right click on a empty area of the desktop.
2. Click on New and Shortcut.
3. Type shutdown.exe -h in the location field and click Next.
4. Type Hibernate for the name and click Finish. You can type any name you would like though.
5. Right click on the new Hibernate shortcut (on desktop) and click Properties.
6. Click on the Change Icon button.

7. Click OK at the pop-up window.
8. Clear the white line to the left of the Browse button, then type %SystemRoot%\System32\powrprof.dll and press Enter.
9. Click on the icon highlighted in blue below and click OK.
10. Click OK to apply.
11. Place the new Hibernate shortcut to wherever you like it to be.
Re: Create a Hibernate Shortcut in Vista
If you dislike the new Windows Vista shutdown menu, you are probably in the majority. An alternative option is to create icons that will let you shut down, lock, or restart your computer by doing following steps:-
1. Right-click on the desktop, choose New and then Shortcut.
2. In the shortcut location box, you'll need to enter the correct command, from the list below.
- Shutdown Computer
Shutdown.exe -s -t 00
- Restart Computer
Shutdown.exe -r -t 00
- Lock Workstation
Rundll32.exe User32.dll,LockWorkStation
- Hibernate Computer
rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll,SetSuspendState
- Sleep Computer
rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0
3. When you've clicked next on the above dialog, you'll be asked to name the shortcut. Probably best to name it according to the right function.
4. After you click Finish, you should now have a new icon that you can double-click to immediately shutdown, restart, or lock your computer.
