On my P5B I have a raid 0 using the Intel controller, so adding a hard disk storage I have to pass on the JMicron controller. My question is whether I risk losing my data doing this manipulation. thank you

Why changing controller? you can not simply add your disk storage?
No I can not simply add the hard drives because the RAID controller Intel switches to default all port to sata raid! So to start the 3rd disc appears to be "analyzed" by the controller, after it dies ...

if you currently have raid 0 (e.g. striped drives) what is your plan?
mirror the striped drives, or remove striping and introduce mirroring only?
how many drives do you expect to have when all is said and done?
the simple answer to your question is, yes. however, I strongly suggest you perform a comprehensive backup before you make the change... beyond that, in the interest of haste and ease of recovery... I suggest you employ a software solution such as ghost... image your raid 0 drives, then restore to raid 1.

RAID-0 is a very poor choice for storing any data you cannot lose. At the vary least, any important data should be backed up VERY regularly.
RAID-0 has it's uses, but not in a home/user PC IMHO. I would only recommend RAID-0 in a user PC as a scratch disk for Video editing (assuming the original files also exist in another location).
