Can I add a modem Wi-Fi ?
Hello!
I'd like to move mobile home Wi-Fi We currently have a modem / 4 port switch that distributes 3 computers in separate rooms. On one of the computers, there is a switch before separating again to populate the server, here it is:
Code:
Modem / switch ----------------------> PC1
----------------------> PC2
Switch2 ---------------> ----------------------> Server
---------------> PC3
So, is it possible to replace the Switch 2 by a Wi-Fi router (I thought a Linksys such that also switch 4 ports to connect the server and PC3, and thus have Wi - Fi as well?
If it is not clear let me know
Re: Can I add a modem Wi-Fi ?
Why does this not work?
It is quite possible that's what I do at home
Code:
modem -> switch -> pc 3 + server
-> Wifi router
If you want your network works as it should and you have access to your server without worries, it will pass while fixed ip configure each machine fixed ip + mask + gateway + DNS The bridge is the local ip of your modem and the mask 255.255.255.0, DNS thou as close to your ISP
It will also require you to switch your linksys router is not plugged into the WAN port but on a LAN port.
Re: Can I add a modem Wi-Fi ?
Will you understand it?
A router is used in a network to connect two different logical networks ie the network that not the same network address
ex: go from the 192.168.0 network. 172.16.0.0 to materials that can be called a router ca!
To add a wireless access through an Ethernet network you only need an access point. It is easier to use and less expensive than a router.
Code:
modem / router -> switch -> pc 3 + server
-> Wifi access point
Or you can also change your modem / router with a modem / router / wifi:
Code:
modem / router / wifi -> switch -> pc 3 + server
Otherwise it is quite consistent (even with a router / wifi) you just choose the right material according to these needs.
Re: Can I add a modem Wi-Fi ?
I do not change my modem, I've paid quite expensive at the time and is very good ST510 which has 5 years now but that will very well, over the wifi router is 10m from my modem, I have half as close to the room where the wifi is most often used, ie in the lounge, all for a greater flow in my office.
