Processor Problem?

I have a Dell E1705 with an Intel Duo Core T2250 processor, 2 GB ram running Vista Premium 32 bit. It originally belonged to someone else who didn't use it much, when I got it, I wiped the hard drive and re-installed windows. The computer is running very slowly, like it's laboring to open programs. I ran the windows experience index program and everything was rated from the low 4's to the low 5's except the processor, which was rated a 2.6.
I'm no computer whiz, but I also have a Satellite which has pretty much the same thing except it has a Pentium Dual Core and it is rated at a 4.6. Shouldn't this Dell be at least close to that? Is there something I may have missed during the re-install? I downloaded all the latest chip sets and bios from Dell.

Hello , The processor clock speed has nothing to do with whatever programs you have running. It is a hardware limitation issue. That said it is possible that the hardware is being restricted by something in the bios having become corrupted. I know nothing about laptops so not even sure if this is practical but resetting the bios to default settings may help. Next read your motherboard manual to see if there are any jumpers or switches that control FSB and CPU Multiplier.

Well, how old is this system? Basically if it is a very old system and if you have purchased it for second hand then you might have been looted, cause old system tend to die when it's time comes and normally a new config which is built does not max till 5 years or so but sometime it does stand above and last till longer period.

Thanks for the help. I did reset the bios to the default settings and it corrected whatever problem there was.
