Security with FTP
I use Cisco router, the Prot release can only take place via my Internet, I do not have an access to these attitudes. That rout is adjusted to NAT, I would have thus for ftp e.g. the have range 55536-55663 de-energize.And now finally to the question: if I let de-energize, do I have no more Firewallschutz within this range, or? I will thus the DS-508 directly to attach router and then can one access from outside via ftp,Does the DS-508 possess its own Firewall? If no, how I can protect myself?

Re: Security with FTP
One gets access over ftp only with appropriate password. A safe password should be selected, in addition you should think to permit only SSL/TLS connections to your ftp server so that the password cannot be intercepted also during the input. With these preventive measures one can call ftp relatively safe.

Re: Security with FTP
Meaningful it would be still to switch on also the “automatic IP blocking”.

Re: Security with FTP
The bottom line is that FTP servers should NEVER be used to distribute sensitive material. You could safely use write-only drop boxes for uploading sensitive files, but as there is no support for encrypted client/server connection to the server you'd better encrypt all uploaded files first.

Re: Security with FTP
If someone tried 5x with the wrong password to log in, he lands himself on this list and immediately blocked. It does not even look the DS then after whether the entrance data are correct…
