How to hide access to Start Menu Programs
Hello,
I just wish that I could hide access "Programs" in the start menu of Windows 2000 and the classic start menu in Windows XP. In fact my goal is to Locking Windows to prevent that people can go in this menu.
I did some research and I found that if you change this line in the registry, you could hide access to programs.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoStartMenuPinnedList" = dword: 00000001
But by making this change in the registry, I always have access to programs in the Start menu.
Therefore, I seek your help to hide access "Programs" in the Start menu in Windows 2000 and the classic start menu in Windows XP.
Thank you in advance for your help
Re: How to hide access to Start Menu Programs
See this:
Remove the All Programs list from the Start menu:
If you enable this setting, the sub-menu All programs will be removed from the Start menu.
If you directly edit the registry, follow these steps:
1) Open \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.
2) Create a DWORD value named NoStartMenuMorePrograms
3) Edit this entry and register this as value data:
* 1: The policy is enabled.
* 0: This policy is disabled.
This strategy is available from the group policy editor by opening User Configuration / Administrative Templates / Start Menu and Taskbar: Remove the All Programs list from the Start menu.
Works for Windows XP, and for Windows 2000, I do not know.
Re: How to hide access to Start Menu Programs
Thank you for the reply,
I made the change in the registry. This works in start menu but not in classic start menu in Windows XP, or Windows 2000.
I think if we can hide the access program on Windows 2000, it will be removed also in the classic start menu in Windows XP.
Thank you for your help
Re: How to hide access to Start Menu Programs
You can maybe try it with Group Policy.
Start
Run
type gpedit.msc then ok
Under "User Configuration"/"Start Menu and Taskbar" there are plenty of restrictions; Remove programs on the Settings menu (I don't think you can remove the Settings menu completely, but then I could be wrong!) etc.........
Re: How to hide access to Start Menu Programs
Hmm, I just had a look at gpedit.msc and it seems to me like you can do a lot of what you want there...
I mean, I've found following options:
-> in Start Menu/Taskbar:
• "Remove programs in Settings menu"
• "Deny access to context menus of the task bar"
-> in Control Center:
• "Deny access to the Control Center" (don't know if you need this too)
