Re: Problem with My New Monitor
You either have a broken VGA connector, a broken monitor cable or a broken monitor. Try replacing the monitor and cable first, then the DVI adapter (if any) and then the video card.
Since you say your old monitor's pins were broken, maybe you should examine your video card to see if the broken pins are still in the holes of the vga port. Kind of a longshot, but what have you got to lose? If the card has a DVI port, use a VGA to DVI adapter and see how the new monitor works with that.
Re: Problem with My New Monitor
Not all the connectors in the VGA plug are used. Look up the VGA pinout and see what that hole is supposed to do. If it is the one for red then we have found the culprit.
You should of returned it for another one while it was still new, if it happened within 30 days of purchase. Try buying a -Dell- next time. Acer is cheap, you get what you pay for.

Cant you adjust contrast/brightness to make it go away?
Re: Problem with My New Monitor
Try it on another computer if possible, but being new, and thats when a bad piece of equipment will often fail, i would take it back and get a new one.
The manufacture of the monitor is who to contact next if it does not work on another computer. When contacting the mfg, do not talk about power surges. Even if it is not the cause of the problem, they could latch onto the idea and refuese to honor a warrenty.
