I play counter strike source with nothing running in the background except antivirus. I am getting really bad lag for minutes. Anyone know how to fix it?

Set all the graphic options to "Low", so the system takes less time to render. Check the instruction book of game that tells you the system requirements, and match it with your system configuration.
You really need 1gb for no lag. Your graphics might not be good enough for the game. Also check your DirectX version at: start=>Run=>dxdiag and follow the instructions.
Its probably the internet connection speed which would be causing the lag. Try and reinstall Windows that helped me getting rid off lag.
You might want to check this for your router:

Switch off the anti virus and then try to play ,, if you face same problem again then the internet speed will be reason...
