Can't open defragmention.
Hello Everybody,
My computer is not allowing me to open defragmention. Whenever i try to click on defragment it show me an error message stating that " can't open " it. Can any tell me why i'm facing such kind of problem? Any suggestion to resolve this issue.
Thank you.
Re: Can't open defragmention.
Do a thorough full scan of your disk with scandisk or chkdsk, try running again after scan. Let's see what happens.
Re: Can't open defragmention.
Other things you can do to troubleshoot defragmention is:-
Firstly eliminate all malware, run AV scans and download a good spyware scanner.Programs interrupting its function can cause the defragmenter to restart or hang. Lack of free space, the built in defragmenter needs atleast 15% free space, for which you can try running a diskcleanup.
Re: Can't open defragmention.
To defragment your hard disk
1. Close all the open programs including your firewall and antivirus software running.
2. Restart your computer and open it in “Safe Mode”
3. To do so, when the computer is loading, press the “F8” key when the Windows screen appears.
4. Choose to open in “Safe Mode” from the list of options to boot your system by using your keyboard arrows.
5. When your computer boots in Safe Mode, ensure once more that all the programs have been closed.
6. Go to the Start button and list “All programs”.
7. In the option “Accessories”, select “System Tools”
8. Select the option “Disk Defragmenter”
9. Choose the option “Analyze” first so that your computer might browse for the free spaces on your drive
10. Hence, select the option “Defragment” to start the process.
Hope so it may resolve your issue.:thumbup1:
Re: Can't open defragmention.
You can also do it with the help of command prompt.
1. Go to Start Button and select “Accessories”
2. Select the “Command Prompt” option and enter “defrag c:” or the drive that you have to defragment.
3. To defragment all your partitioned drives of various sizes and fragment size, you can use the command “defrag volume [{-r | -w}] [-f] [-v] “
4. To defragment your whole drive with a space availability of less that 15%, you can use the command “defrag -c [{-r | -w}] [-f] [-v]”
