I have a ACER ASPIRE 4520NWXMI LAPTOP . The battery on acer website costs about high however i know there are substitute brands for much less. is it safe to get them? does anyone have personal experience with secondary manufacturer batteries? and any one cheap battery for my laptop.

Do some research. Find out who the manufacturer is. It sounds funny, but Sony has had several LARGE recalls of batteries. What would happen, despite "quality" assurances, little flecks of metal used to make each cell would be left in the battery. Those flecks would then shift around when transported, and short out a few cells. That would cause the heat and fires that some batteries have experienced.
