USB unknown device

Hello,
someone knows what is causing the error, the USB memory sticks is detected as unknown device. I am on Windows XP Pro SP2. One of the machines ran on the PC under Win98. Now it is no longer usable.

The two sticks are running at another computer with same OS properly.

Is a Compaq Presario 1800 XL 183rd The notebook also has only a single USB port.

Do you advice?

try updating the motherboard drivers direct from the motherboard website, also update the drivers for your usb devices from the manufacturers websites

After removing and reinstalling all of the USB devices in safe mode (to no avail), I figured out that the "Sis PCI to USB Enhanced host controller" was the problem. In its properties, I disabled it and all of a sudden my computer recognized all of my USB 2.0 devices.
