Network discovery turned off Abruptly
I have windows vista installed on my computer but whenever I try to access Network discovery it last for several time and then turned off abruptly and because of this reason I prefer to take back up of my system.
But I wanted to find out the reason behind it.
please help.
Re: Network discovery turned off Abruptly
I would suspect that Vista's operation of those functions is being interfered with. The primary suspect would be your McAfee software as it is trying to control your system's safety functions. I refuse to use any of McAfee's software, so cannot advise you on what to look for in it, but a positive test would be to uninstall the software and see if you are able to regain control of the firewall and network discovery settings.
Re: Network discovery turned off Abruptly
It's really simple. This has nothing to do with the domain unless there is a policy set to disable this which I think would be really silly to do so.
In the Network and Sharing Center you will see Network Discovery and File Sharing. Simply turn them on!
Re: Network discovery turned off Abruptly
Go to administrative tools > firewall with advanced security.
Click "inbound rules" then on the right "filter by profile" > "filter by private profile"
Next find all the "Network discovery ..." items. You will see that the SSDP-In and the UPnP-In are not enabled.
When you enable these; network discovery will automatically turn back on again. Unfortunatly after a reset or a reboot, they turn back off again. When you double-click these items it says "this is a predefined rule and some of its properties cannot be modified" I am not sure this is why it keeps turning off.
If someone knows to to make the "enabled" option permanent I would be much obliged.
