Problem With Power On Password

I have a problem related to my HP laptop and my small brother. well my brother uses my laptop in my absence and keeps experimenting and doing unecessary stuff on my laptop when i am away. Yesterday when I was busy with my work, He took my laptop and entered bios setup and set power on password. Now the problem is that laptop asks for a power on password when i switch on power my laptop.

i searched various sites on the net but no solutions. I also tried like removing cmos/rtc battery but it also failed to work.

Please help me with this problem

It sounds like the CMOS battery is completely drained and did not hold the setting. To reset the BIOS in desktop machine, I simply remove the button battery and wait for a while or you have short the connections.

There is no way of circumventing those passwords, you would need to get the motherboard replaced.

The HP manual details how to reset CMOS, pointing to a program on their website called UNLOCK6.EXE, which is no longer available .
Anyway, I have tried unplugging the CMOS battery, looked for a jumper or switch, etc. but no luck. It seems like the only way is to find this UNLOCK6 program to run the override password (05260) that was given to me on this laptop, so that UNLOCK6 can generate a backdoor password.

Follow these steps to clear the password:

1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.

2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.

3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.

4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 48).

5. Remove the real-time clock (RTC) battery (see RTC battery on page 68).

6. Wait approximately 15 minutes.

7. Replace the RTC battery and reassemble the computer.

8. Connect AC power to the computer. Do not reinsert any batteries at this time.

9. Turn on the computer.

All passwords and all CMOS settings have been cleared.

Yup, this Method Above absolutely works, Unplugging your RTC battery, resetting CMOS allowed this to happen. Locating the RTC battery requires going internal on your computer. If your are not familiar with what the Battery looks like check it out here - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...45_a20rtc5.gif - I suggest you carefully and gently use small pliers to ease the small plug out. From there continue with the instructions above. For me, when I rebooted my wireless was not working but that was an easy fix... Put your battery back in
