Different frequency RAM makes system hang
Hi Guys, I have a problem with my computer. I bought a new RAM 1GB and after that my Windows XP hangs for a second or so then runs well. After about 5 seconds it hangs again! At first i thought it was my ram problem as my machine worked smoothly with only my old RAM installed. So i changed the RAM now again the same problem. My machine works fine with just one RAM installed either old or new. but both RAM doesn't work togather. Help guys!
Re: Different frequency RAM makes system hang
It seems that your two RAMs are mis-matching. Check for the frequency of both the RAMs, if they are of same frequency there won't be any problem! If they aren't this kind of problem is common.
Re: Different frequency RAM makes system hang
I've checked both the RAMs, they are of different frequencies! One is of 333Mhz [old] 400Mhz [new]. Is there anyways through which i can use both the RAMs please help me guys!
Re: Different frequency RAM makes system hang
Start your computer and go to BIOS Setup. In there search for the setting for adjusting clock speed for RAM [i'm not aware of it]. there select the speed that matches both the RAM [333Mhz in your case]. Then save the settings and try to boot. I'm not sure this might help but i had a similar issue and was able to get through this problem in this way. Hope this helps you... All the best!
Re: Different frequency RAM makes system hang
Why don't you use the 1GB RAM instead of both the RAMs. you can upgrade it anytime! Why to risk your computer using different frequencies RAM. Its better to be safe then repenting...! All the best!
Re: Different frequency RAM makes system hang
Note..
If you fill 2 slots with same frequency of RAM then you will get DUAL CHANNAL Mode
whereas filling 1 slot RAM will work as Single Channel
Thanks
