PS3 with iMac as a screen
Is there some who have tried to use an imac as a screen for a PS3? Will someone tell me how to connect my PS3 to my iMac so I can play it? I want to use my PS3 in my room but I do not have a television in my room.
There is no HDMI and the AV button there ... but can it be done?
Re: PS3 with iMac as a screen
Yes with elgato tv turner, but you will experience lag on the screen. It is not optimal and it may almost better pay to buy an LCD TV prices have quite fallen.
Re: PS3 with iMac as a screen
It can not be done easily. The only way would be to get some kind of capture card or TV Tuner. Those rage in cost, but either way, it would probably better suit you to just spring for a cheap TV from Wal-mart or something. Its a shame that that nice big display can't be used, but *Shrug* it is a computer after all. If you want to have HD, getting some kind of Capture Card could be cheaper than buying an HD TV of similar size, I don't know much about prices or anything, but either way, it will cost you a bit.
Re: PS3 with iMac as a screen
iMacs do not have a video in port. The best you can do is to get a [Mac compatible] USB tuner with yellow/white/red inputs. I'm not sure HDMI input exists yet.
Re: PS3 with iMac as a screen
Yes you can, very easily. You buy this plug that stick into the port to the left of the headphone jack, idk what its called. But you basically plug that in and you plug your ps3's not the HD jacks but the other ones into it, and there you go.

I know Elgato used to sell a video encoder/ TV tuner box which allowed one to connect any video source to a Mac and playback with zero lag for gaming etc. The latest one does not specifically mention this facility, although it does have composite/ s-video input for encoding VHS tapes etc.

To get a hi-def picture - no
To get standard - yes.. with a TV card
