Re: KB951847
No only one of the nine needs to be installed
based on the OS you are using. The mostly
likely update for XP users is the one titled:
"Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
Service Pack 1 and .NET
Framework 3.5 Family Update
(KB951847) x86"
Note: File size is 248.4MB in the listing

I too have been suffering with this stupid update from the standpoint that
although it is dated Aug 2008 I STILL CANNOT INSTALL IT! (Its Now May 20,
2009)
The download takes place, then the install only to end up with a screen that
informs me that the update failed! This has been happening for months and has
also been happening throughout my use of XP Professional with prior updates!
(And NO, additional security programs are NOT the problem!)
XP Professional my foot... This is garbage!
On the other hand, my other 2 Mac OS-X systems have NEVER had any updating
issues. GUESS THE EXTRA $$$ ARE WELL WORTH IT TO ME AND OTHERS!
Signed, a very tired of Windows Crap professional user and now a Very Happy
Mac user eagerly waiting Snow Leopard! Just the facts folks!
You're not running .NET Framework on a Mac, buddy.

Re: update (KB951847)
Yes, true but...
Why should my Mac care about not having the .Net
afforded capabilities?
What is it that you think my Macs
are missing?
Everything including screen and file sharing
works flawlessly...

Okay..I keep getting the same thing too! Except, I'm not using a MAC. I've
got Windows Vista Home Premium. I keep trying to download and install the
KB951847 update AND IE8, but it won't take. Those two updates FAIL
EVERYTIME!!! Don't know if I really need to have the KB951847 update or not,
but I guess since MS keeps telling me I need it, then I must need it. WHY
WILL IT NOT LET ME INSTALL THE DARN THING!!!!
Frustrating......
Have you tried installing just one of the two updates?
Have you tried downloading them from the download center and installing them in
Safe Mode?

Re: update (KB951847)
I've tried to install the "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and
..NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847 x86 and the IE 8 separately to no
success.
I've also read some of the other posts by other users on this thread. I
guess the question I have, is how "important" is this update and if it's so
important, why won't in install the way EVERY other update from Microsoft
does? Why would I have to go into safe mode to install an "important" MS
update? I know...a lot of questions, but I'm a liitle hesitant.

Re: update (KB951847)
These updates usually will install in the same way as every other update. The
fact that they won't suggests a problem with your computer ... which might (or
might not) be resolved by installing them in Safe Mode.
If you search this newsgroup for .NET issues, you should find some other
recommendations, as .NET does tend to develop more problems than the average
bear. I'm not sure why you'd be having trouble with IE8, though.
Have you tried turning off your anti-virus and firewall software before the
installation?

Re: update (KB951847)
Simply install the 3 updates mentioned here in the exact order mentioned and
your problem will be fixed

RE: update (KB951847)
I installed the same update and now everything on my computer takes FOREVER
to open or occur when I click on something. Just trying to open the Control
Panel took minutes and it was showing me that animated icon that appears when
the computer is searching a network (waving flashlight) as if it couldn't
FIND the Control Panel! WTH???
