Windows XP dials to ISP and stops resonding
The computer is running XP Home (SP2) and has several user accounts. The problem only exists in one of the user accounts.
Connecting to the internet (dialup) You can hear the handshaking signals, Verification of username and password completes, "Regestering your computer on the network" sometimes takes a bit to finish. However the "connected @ xx.x bps" bubble does not come up nor do the blinky computers in task bar appear. You can move the mouse around but when you click icons or the start button nothing happens. Even pressing ctrl-alt-del does nothing. Help guys!
Re: Windows XP dials to ISP and stops resonding
Try installing new drivers which are stable and not the beta ones. Or you already have the new ones, try installing the older drivers!
Re: Windows XP dials to ISP and stops resonding
A driver problem would show up in any user account. It sounds like explorer stops responding. Try shutting down rundll32.exe and explorer.exe before you connect to your dial-up ISP. Once the desktop disappears click on new task and type "explorer" to bring back the desktop. now dial to the internet and check if any problem persists.
