Problem with Outlook 2003, Word 2003 & Word 2007
Hi, I have MS office 2003 with MS Word 2007 & MS Excel 2007 installed on my system. The word applications run fine. The problem I face is that Outlook 2003 refuses to recognize Word 2003 as the email editor and the mails (new and sometimes reply & forward) revert to plain text. I do not want to install the full office 2007. the only 2 applications I need are word 2007 & excel 2007; that too not very often. Can anyone suggest a way out?
Thanks...
Re: Problem with Outlook 2003, Word 2003 & Word 2007
hello there.........
yes you do have a solution for your problem and it is called to be a backward compatibility.
the steps you have to follow for backward compatibility is:
- When you are performing the task of creating a file in 2007,
- after you create it make sure that while you save, save it in 97-2003 format.
- You can do that by File-Save As-97-2003 word Document.
TRY to uninstall the MS office 2007 and use 2003 as only one MS office can run at a single time in a single operating system
Now this steps will help you in opening a 2007 doc file in 2003 MS- office
Re: Problem with Outlook 2003, Word 2003 & Word 2007
It's a very easy process.
When you cant to save the file, in the Save As option, There is an option called Save As Type, just under the Save As File name. There, choose Compatibility Mode. Your file will be saved with .doc extension, that is compatible with all prior versions of Microsoft Office, that is from 95-2003. If you save in a normal mode, it is saved in .docx format in Microsoft Office 2007, which cannot accept properly the prior versions.
Re: Problem with Outlook 2003, Word 2003 & Word 2007
Well can you tell me why are you using Ms office in such mode?
You have Ms Office 2003 but you want Word & Excel 2007 which you don't use often then why not use 2003 for the same?
This is the reason behind the issue with Outlook 2003 & Word 2003 IMO.
Re: Problem with Outlook 2003, Word 2003 & Word 2007
Do you have the latest service packs installed for Outlook (Office) 2003?
Do you have two MS Word running, MS Word 2003 and MS Word 2007? Outlook gets confused when you have two Word programs running.
If you want to use Outlook 2007, you should upgrade everything to Office 2007.
Re: Problem with Outlook 2003, Word 2003 & Word 2007
As I said earlier, I'm not facing problems using the different versions of Office. The only problem I'm facing is that Outlook 2003 is not recognizing Word 2003 even when I set Word 2003 as the default.
I have the latest service packs installed.

PC18...have you figured out an answer to this yet? I'm having the same issue. I mainly use Office 2003, but sometimes need to use 2007.

Dont know about PC 18 ,,but heres a you can do to solve your problem .
Use Word as Your Default Email Editor in Outlook
To set Word as the default editor for email messages in Outlook:
- Select Tools | Options from the menu in Outlook.
- Click on the Mail Format tab.
- Make sure the Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit e-mail messages checkbox is selected.
- In versions before Outlook 2003, the text reads Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages.
- Close the dialog.
Outlook 2007 always uses Word for editing.
Keep in mind, though, that you should use plain text or maybe HTML formatting unless you know the recipient also uses Outlook.
