Hi all,
I need to log off a user from my company's network today, but I don't know
on which pc the user is logged in. First I thought of just rebooting the
user's pc remotely, but since this is not possible is there any way I can
force a user to log off the network just knowing the user name or is there a
way for me to find out on which pc the user is logged in?

Hello Rondo,
I assume you have a domain. It's not stored in AD where the user is logged
on to. If you know it's computer you can use the shutdown.exe to reboot or
shutdown it's machine. So disable the user account and shutdown, next time
the user start the machine he/she can only logon locally with cached credentials
if you use them.

Hi Meinolf,
I do have a domain, but the problem is that the documentation I have on
which pc the users are using is something I enherited from the company's
previous IT guy, and it's quite out of date, so out of the four users I have
to log off I only know which PC one of them logs on to. I was hoping that in
AD there was a way for me to force the user to log off no matter what pc they
are logged in on just knowing the user name.

Ronnie,
try launching Computer Management console on each of your domain controllers
and check content of the Sessions node (under System Tools\Shared Folders).
This might give you indication what computer (or IP address) the user
connects from. Alternatively, assuming that your users are configured with
roaming profiles/home directories, you can try the same by connecting
Computer Management console to the server where the roaming profile/home
directory is located.
Once you determined the computer name/IP address, follow Meinolf's advice...

If you have a server on which you know the user accesses a share, you
can look in the Computer Management mmc on that server under Shared
Folders / Sessions, and you will see what IP the user is logging on
from.
You can then remotely shutdown / reboot the machine with that IP

You can also use the cmd "net sessions" to see who's connected to the box.
It'll show you IP address and user name.
