Outlook Express Is Over Riding Existing Browser Windows When You Click On A Link In A Email
I have just reinstalled outlook express since the old copy became corrupt.
Now I have a small problem .
Everytime I click on a link contained within an email it over rides already open Internt Explorer Browser Windows.
Instead of opening a new window.
I know there is a setting that allows for a new browser window to open instead of over riding a existing one .
But I'll be dammed if I can find it .
Any help would be much appreciated.
I am running XP

My experience on this is that the response is variable - a link in a newsletter such as WXPNews always opens for me in a new tab, but the link in the notification email to a thread that I have contributed to on the BBS always opens in the same window and on the same tab as the BBS is already open on.

Hi,
Try the following steps :
- Open Outlook Express
- At the menu at the top select Tools then select Options
- Click on the Connection tab at the top.
- Now click the button that says Change
- Another Box will appear. Click on the Advanced tab at the top.
- Scroll down to find Reuse windows for launching shortcuts and remove the tick next to it
- Then press Apply and then Ok
Now Outlook Express opens links in a new window.
Re: Outlook Express Is Over Riding Existing Browser Windows When You Click On A Link In A Email
This has never been the case before for me .
Always in the past when I would click on a link contained within an email I recieved it would open a new window in internet explorer 6 .
Now what happens is that when I click on a link in any email in Outlook Express it automatically over rides one of existing open windows in ie6 .
I hate it.
I know there there is a setting that allows for clicking on a link contained within an email to open a brand new browser window in ie6 .
But dam it , I just can find the right box to check off.

Hi Trojan -
Thanks for the help .
Done what you suggested .
Then closed & re-opened Outlook Express .
Still does the same .
When I click on a link contained in an email it just overwrites one of my existing open ie6 browser windows instead of opening a new one for the link I clicked on within the email .

Follow these instructions to change this behavior and let the link open in a new window.
Note 1: This behavior will change for all applications (not just Outlook) from which you open a link.
Note 2: There is no need to change this setting for Outlook 2003 as Outlook 2003 will ALWAYS open links in a new window.
Internet Explorer Options
To change the setting for Internet Explorer choose;
Tools-> Internet Options-> tab Advanced-> section Browsing-> untick option “Reuse windows for launching shortcuts”
In the registry
1. Make sure Outlook is closed
2. Open your registry editor by opening the Run command and type regedit (regedt32 for Windows 2000)
3. Locate the following key;
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
4. Double-click on the AllowWindowReuse value and give it the value of 1
5. Press OK on the input box and close the registry editor
6. When you now open Outlook and click on a link in a message the link will open in it’s own window
