DVDs undetectable

I am in possession of a laptop ASUS F5R series. But I have a problem burner for some time. In fact, not only I can not burn in addition to 4x, but it does not recognize its own babies . I had several DVD before you realize that the actual work that another computer can read but not mine.

I have been doing research on google but I can not find anything, so I am returning to the community techarena where they already helped me in the past.

How can I do to burn faster, and more importantly, be able to play DVDs that I serious?

When you read your CDs, you read them the drive or another drive?
If you read them your burner and that it can not detect it can be to die ...

the model is the F5R AP-164C (well I think, is what is marked on the label under the computer). The recorder is the Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-850s. I can not find the driver on the net for an updated driver so I can not try to re-install the driver.

I should mention that I have only one drive (which is also offiice drive), it was with the recorder that I read DVDs (except that it is not read more).

So it may be that my drive is dead? how is it possible then that I have burned 6 or 7 DVDs since I, and set apart to check if a burn to work, I have read any CD / DVD. In other words, I used very little.

If anyone knows where I can find the driver I would be grateful to.
